It is almost impossible to think of a crime that has not been committed in the name of humanity.

Engaged creativity. Critical thought. Responsibility for the world.

Sophia Foundation: Art & Critical Thought is a space for research, design and publishing collaboration at the intersection of art, philosophy and critical cultural reflection. In the face of humanism in crisis, when the idea of human rights and dignity is sometimes used as a facade for exclusionary and oppressive actions, we support engaged art and literature. Our mission is to create a space for dialogue without imposing narratives, based on respect for the diversity of other cultures, often marginalized in global discourse. We focus on human rights, justice, migration, refugees and critique of official historical narratives. We are vigilant against ideologies justifying crimes – from colonialism to totalitarianism – as well as nationalist tendencies and the politics of globalism, which often lead to new forms of exclusion.

Our activities focus on three main areas:

Engaged art and literature

We support creativity that raises questions, stirs consciences and initiates dialogue around the most important challenges of the present: human rights, social justice, migration, refugees or criticism of official historical narratives. The art and literature that we promote face the manifestations of the crisis of humanism — exclusion, instrumentalization of values, growing inequalities and loss of sensitivity to other people.

Critical reflection and humanistic research

We conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface of art, philosophy and critical thought, creating new languages and narratives free from violence and hegemony. We place the crisis of humanism at the center of reflection, asking about the future of human rights, ethical values and freedom. We also take up the topics of technology and humanity, exclusion, symbolic violence, climate catastrophe and globalization.

Dialogue, education and intercultural cooperation

We create a space for authentic dialogue, free from imposing narratives, based on respect for diversity and sensitivity to different traditions of thought. Our activities are not limited to building bridges between cultures – we also reflect on contemporary forms of the crisis of humanism, which are revealed in social tensions, nationalisms, the politics of globalism and exclusionary ideologies. We organize conferences, panels, workshops and educational projects, which become a place for asking difficult questions about the human condition and the future of the community.

Sophia Foundation: Art & Critical Thought is an independent and apolitical initiative.
